Welcome to our CPR world!
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States as reported by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Knowledge of CPR or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation means the difference between life and death for people who have had a heart attack, a stroke, are choking, have drowned or have gone into cardiac arrest.
Determine if the victim is conscious; finding a pulse can lose precious seconds, so it is best to call out, asking “Are you okay?” and repeating if necessary. If there is no response, call 911 right away and start CPR by initiating Circulation, Airway and Breathing steps (C-A-Bs). If possible, enlist bystanders for help in calling 911 and start CPR as soon as possible.
The American Heart Association (AHA) provide evidence-based training guidelines and techniques necessary for individuals to perform C-A-B (Compressions, Airway, Breathing) The key to save lives is to perform CPR properly and in a timely manner technique. Learn life-saving skills today!
Why First Aid Is Important?
Learning first aid is critical if you want to be prepared for many of the most common medical emergencies that arise, such as seizures, asthma attacks, strokes, burns, choking; neck, head, and spinal injuries; diabetic emergencies, heart attacks, poisoning, and external bleeding and severe trauma.
First aid courses are commonly combined with courses for adult/pediatric CPR/AED assistance.
How does CPR work?
The heart is a vital organ that pumps blood through the body and to the brain, supplying a steady flow of oxygen.
Cardiac arrest stops the heart, the pulse and breathing functions, depriving vital organs, especially the brain of the oxygen. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, known as CPR, is when a rescuer, bystander begins chest compressions to pump manually the heart while rushing the oxigenated blood to the vital organs and the brain.
Call 911 prior CPR!
Survival rates are increased if a victim recieves high-quality CPR, and receives stimulation from an AED device (Automated External Defibrillator) and with the fast arrival of trained emergency medical technicians or EMTs to provide greater assistance.
Note: Call 911 before beginning CPR or any other lifesaving techniques, as getting the Emergency Response System active and the EMTs on their way is the priority.
How does an AED works?
An automated external defibrillator, is a small device that analyzes the heart rhythm of a suspected cardiac arrest patient and, if necessary, delivers an electrical shock to the person’s heart to help it reestablish a normal rhythm. It’s found in stores, restaurants, libraries, stadiums, movie theaters, healthcare facilities, and workplaces. Even for people without previous training, an AED it’s easy to use, the device talks rescuers through the process. All its needed is to follow the audible instructions.
